New Photography Exhibit: March 22ndThe winter winds of 2012 usher in the work of San Francisco photographer, Sharon Beals to the Blue Heron Gallery on March 22nd. Sharon spent 3 years photographing archived bird nests in natural history and zoological museums in California.
This is a rare chance for the public to take a peek at these fabulous nests as the collections are only open to the scientific community. Sharon's photographs are spell binding, reflecting the rich, beautiful nest making ability of birds the world over.
Be sure to put this exhibition on your must see list for 2012!
The November/December issue of American Photo (a glossy, nationally circulated, bimonthly magazine) selected the Top 56 Photo Books of the Year. Of the 7 in the Environment & Nature category is "Nests: Fifty Nests and the Birds that Built Them by Sharon Beals". The review is as follows:
Sharon Beals is coming to lecture about her work and open her exhibition March 22nd with a reception at 6 pm, lecture at 7. This event is co-sponsored by Blue Heron and Atlanta Audubon.
To wet your appetite, check out her images at www.sharonbeals.com. Say Hello to Recycle Nancy!
We have a new resident at the Preserve! "Recycle Nancy" was donated and created by Celia Gilner and Bill Little. She was designed for the Atlanta Botanical Garden's Scarecrow exhibit and has made a new home with us when the exhibition closed. She is made entirely of trash collected from Nancy Creek, the same creek that runs through the Preserve. We hope she will inspire visitors to recycle their own trash at home and here at the Preserve. Spring Work DaysWork days are from 9a.m.- noon on the following days: March 10th April 14th May 10th For more information, email Kevin McCauley at kpmccauley1@aim.com.
